A stunt performer is forced to retire from Hollywood due to a career-ending injury. However, he is persuaded to come back when his A-list double disappears. Starring Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, The Fall Guy is the ultimate popcorn flick that boasts amazing action-packed scenes, wonderful humor, and a ridiculously charismatic cast.

For a film about stunt performers, the film holds no punches when it comes to great action. It’s a nonstop fun-filled ride with explosive stunts, serving as a tribute to classic action-adventure blockbusters. The movie majorly highlights the important role played by a film crew, shedding light on how serious the job of a stunt double is in delivering an amusing viewing experience for audiences. But with a comical touch.
It’s a deeply meta film that manages to both poke fun at the movie industry and offer viewers a behind-the-scenes look at the magic of filmmaking. Drew Pearce‘s script is particularly clever, with dry humor interspersed between the explosions, resulting in a well-balanced mix of action and comedy.
The entire cast performs brilliantly and embraces every absurd moment. Gosling continues to channel his Ken-ergy, making this a great follow-up for him. His chemistry with Blunt is undeniable, and I thought they both had a great banter that leaps off-screen. Other supporting characters, such as Hannah Waddingham and Winston Duke, are equally delightful.

The plot of the film is quite the feast, taking a pseudo-detective mystery angle. A clear connection to the 80s television series it’s loosely based on; which followed stunt performers who worked as bounty hunters.
The story did feel a little convoluted at first. Even heading into the third act it felt like a lot was going on that was a bit complicated initially. It eventually managed to bring everything together nicely. Despite being excessive at times, it was still highly entertaining.

The Fall Guy is a thrilling and hilarious peek behind the curtain of filmmaking. Director David Leitch did a wonderful job executing the movie, making it wildly entertaining. However, most importantly, it shows the significance of the people who risk it all for a good gag — the stunt crew. It’s the perfect movie-theater-going experience with charming performances, a few fun cameos, and fantastic action. After all, it set a Guinness World Record for an epic car stunt. Once you see this film, there’s no denying the people in this field deserve their flowers (and an Oscar category).
