While we’re settling into 2019 and prepping for those inevitable resolution fails, I’m getting ready for a new slate of film releases this year. At the end of every year I put out my Horror Guide, but I rarely discuss the films I’m most looking forward to outside of the genre.
There are a ton of highly anticipated films coming out this year, many from Disney and their properties. Whether you’re into animated features, science-fiction adventures, or just wanting to check out something action-packed, 2019 won’t disappoint you. Here are some that I’m really eager to see:
A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood | Tom Hanks portrays the beloved Mr. Rogers in this biopic that is sure to pull at your heartstrings and fill you with nostalgic butterflies.
Aladdin | Everyone’s favorite street rat gets his own live-action treatment. Will Smith stars as Genie, taking the reigns from the dearly missed Robin Williams. While the film has received lackluster reactions to the photos released, I’m still holding out hope that this classic will be well taken care of.
Avengers: Endgame | It’s the end of a superhero era with the newest Avengers flick, a follow-up to the deeply depressing Infinity War. This one is sure to be equally sad, as it is rumored to be the last for Iron Man and Captain America, as the actors portraying them are poised to move on.
Captain Marvel | Speaking of Infinity War… at the conclusion of Thanos’ snap, we were teased with a nod to the powerful shero. Brie Larson plays the titular character, which marks the first solo female superhero origin story for the MCU.
Dumbo | Tim Burton brings the beloved tale of Dumbo to life with his whimsical style and a few familiar faces such as Michael Keaton, Eva Green, Danny DeVito and Collin Farrell.
Frozen 2 | While some may not be thrilled at this Disney sequel, Anna and Elsa are coming back for a follow-up to the insanely popular 2013 film. I for one, loved the first and can’t wait for the next, so long as it has equally catchy tunes.
Gemini Man | The newest sci-fi adventure starring Will Smith, and directed by Ang Lee, tells the story of a hitman facing off with his own clone. Sounds futuristic!
The Lion King | Another Disney classic reimagined. This animated remake features the voices of Donald Glover, Seth Rogen, Keegan-Michael Key and the return of James Earl Jones as Mufasa.
Pokémon Detective Pikachu | Ryan Reynolds voices everyone’s favorite Pokémon in this hilarious, but weird looking, live-action adventure.
Replicas | Keanu Reeves stars as a scientist struggling with the deaths of his family. He’ll do whatever he can to bring them back, including replicating them with unknown consequences.
Rocketman | This upcoming Elton John biopic is said to be less of a realistic look at the singers life, and more of a fantasy/whimsical journey.
Toy Story 4 | We 90’s kids couldn’t be more thrilled to have another installment in the wonderful animated series. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Buzz and Woody on another adventure together.
